Central Florida Dragon Boat Festival

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Lake County Golden Triangle, the 16th annual Dragon Boat Festival will be taking place in Wooton Park in Tavares Florida! The proceeds from this event directly benefit the Tavares, Eustis and Mount Dora community members through scholarships and other donations.

Local schools and their bands will be joining the event this year to provide entertainment throughout the course of the event. Commercial, food and craft vendors will be attending and admission for viewers is free!

2018 Race Results

How to Register a Team

This fun and competitive event is open for team registration!  A minimum of 18 paddlers and a drummer are needed for the big boats and 10 paddlers plus a drummer for the small boats. Big boat team rosters will allow up to 24 paddlers and a drummer, small boat rosters are allowed 13 paddlers plus a drummer.  Each local community team will receive 1 practice with their team registration fee and will race 3 times during the event.  There is no elimination during the competition!

Racing will take place at Wooton Park.. Teams will participate in 3 rounds of racing - Round 1 and 2 will be against the clock. Teams will then be seeded into Round 3 based on their combined times from Round 1 and 2. Winners will be awarded in the post-racing awards presentation.

Team Captain's Info

Please refer to this page often as race day approaches.  We will provide all of the resources that you need to successfully manage your dragon boat team for the 2018 Central Florida Dragon Boat Festival.

Here is a short list of duties and expectations of a Team Captain:
  • Represent your team through pre-event communications and during the event
  • Relay ALL information provided to you out to your team members to they are fully informed
  • Arrange for payment for your team's registration fee
  • Prepare the team roster and manage your paddler's online waivers with the High Five Dragon Boat staff prior to the event
  • Attend Team Check In on race day
  • Attend the Team Captain's meeting on race day
  • Relay all pertinent updates to your team on race day (i.e. schedule changes and race progression)
  • Ensure that your team members know when and where to be throughout the day
  • Assist High Five by ensuring that your team is following the rules (i.e. no alcohol consumption and water safety)

Roster and Waivers

Click the link below to download a ROSTER for your team. It is a Word document which you can type directly in to. Please utilize this form to submit your official roster to High Five Dragon Boat. Teams with multiple crews participating must submit a separate roster for each team. Paddlers are only allowed to cross roster if they are participating on teams that are racing in different divisions. Paddlers cannot paddle on two teams that are registered in the same division (i.e. Premier Mixed).

​Rosters can be emailed directly to jill@highfivedragonboat.com when completed. They are due no later than Monday, March 5th.

The online waiver of liability must be filled out by each and every team member that will be getting into a dragon boat during practice or race day. If you have paddlers without access to the internet, please contact us directly to make arrangements: jill@highfivedragonboat.com. It will be your responsibility to ensure all team members sign a waiver prior to race day. Waivers are due to be signed no later than Wednesday, March 7th.

Team Practices

Each local community team will receive a one-hour practice session in the week prior to racing, provided by High Five Dragon Boat. We will provide the boats, paddles, lifevests and a coach to each team.  Teams are responsible for providing the paddlers and a drummer!  We'll teach you all about paddling and racing.

Teams should arrive 30 minutes prior to their practice session. To schedule a practice, please click below to see available sessions and then email your request to Jill@highfivedragonboat.com. 

Additional practices can be requested on an as-available basis for $100 per session.
